Ok,
you have just opened up AlliED, and you are saying to yourself “ooh,
this looks complicated”. Well, it's actually pretty simple once you
get used to the interface. In this tutorial you will get step-by-step instructions
for making a mission. I recommend playing around with the interface a bit
to get used to it before you actually try and make even the simplest of
missions.
Part
1: Mission Parameters
Click
on the “Mission Parameters” button
on the upper-left portion of your screen. Rename “Region 1” to “Home Base”
and “Region 2” to “Asteroid Belt”.
Then click
on “OK” to close the window.
Part
2: Region 1 (Home Base)
Step
1:
You
will see on the map an X-Wing (or whatever your default craft is) on the
grid. It will be at the coordinates 0,0, which is at the center of the
map on the X-Y Plane. Move your X-Wing back, about one square. Then, double
click on the “X-W Unnamed” entry in the FG List on the Main Pages, and
that will bring up the Datapad which shows the selections for the ship.
Rename “Unnamed” to “Red”, and click on the tab that will put 6 fighters
in that group. (Not 6 waves, 6 fighters. The tab is to he left of where
it says “Xwing”)
You have
just made red group!
Step
2:
Then,
click on the button that puts a new flight group on the map
and make it a Winged Calamari Cruiser. Name it “Defiance”. Go to the WP
selector, and click on the button that makes the cruiser face to the right.
Then, put the cruiser behind red group. Then, click on the X-Z plane selector
and put the fighter down a bit, maybe a half a klick or so.
Step
3:
Double
click on “X-W Red” in the FG List to bring up it's properties again. Then
Click on the “Departure” tab. On the lower-right portion of that window,
where it says “Via:” Change the first hyperspace to “WCRS Defiance”.
This is
basically telling Red Group that their mothership is the Defiance, and
that they should go home to her at the end of the mission. Close the window.
Step
4:
Make
a new flight group, and make it a backdrop by selecting “Backdrop / Light
(RGB->)” from the craft selections. Then, put the backdrop, oh let's say,
right behind the defiance and to the left slightly. Then, double click
on “B/Drop Unnamed” to bring up it's selections window. Click on the little
planet button at the bottom
to bring up the backdrop pictures. Pick backdrop 1 and click on the half
shadow button. Name it “1.0 0.5 0.0” and set it's brightness to 1.0 and
size to 2.0.
Step
5:
Then,
right-click on the FG List, and select “add hyperbuoy” from the pop up
menu. Uncheck the box if you don't want to add entry point buoys. Put “HYP
Asteroid Belt” about two klicks (two squares) in front of the X-wing.
Step
6:
Double
click on “X-W Red” in the FG List and click on the Orders tab. Then, for
the order, select “Hyper to Region”. On the bottom of the window, you can
select the region you want the ship to hyper to. Leave the region at “2”
Then click on the waypoint button and make a waypoint for the x-wings that
is near the hyperbuoy.
You just
made order 1 for region 1.
Step
7:
For
the next order, select “Fly Home”, and add no waypoints for that order.
This basically tells the x-wing to “Once you have come back from region
two, go home to your mothership”
Part
3: Region 2 (The Asteroid Belt)
Step
1:
Click
on the Region 2 button on the right-side panel. There should be two ships,
an X-Wing and a Hyperbuoy. Don't mess with them now. Create three new flight
groups; a group of six TIE Fighters, a group of six TIE Interceptors, and
a Strike Cruiser. Double click on “STRKC Unnamed” from the left side bar,
and set it's team to Imperial. Rename the TIE Fighters to “Alpha”, the
Interceptors to “Beta” and The Strike Cruiser to “Frop”
Step
2:
Put
the Strike Cruiser about four klicks away from the center of the map, in
the upper-left quadrant of the map. Make it face to the Right. “Double
click on “STRKC Frop” and then on the arrival tab. Set the arrival condition
to “100% of Flight Group X-W Red(1) Must Arrive in Region 2”. Set the delay
to ten seconds.
Step
3:
Highlight
“T/F Alpha” and click on the arrival tab. Then make the arrival condition
“100% of STRKC Frop must arrive”. Set the delay for 15 seconds. In the
“Via:” slot put “STRKC Frop” for it's mothership. Do exactly the same thing
for T/I Beta, but set it's arrival delay for 17 seconds.
Step
4:
Create
a new flight group, make it a backdrop, and make it backdrop 61, name it
“0.5 0.25 0.0” and set it's size to 1.0 and brightness to 0.5. Put it at
the coordinates 5,-5 on the map.
Step
5:
Give
T/I Beta and T/F Alpha the order to “Attack targets flightgroup X-W Red”
Give The Strike Cruiser the order “Patrol and attack targets flightgroup
X-W Red” and set the strike cruisers speed to 60%.
Then,
set a waypoint for the strike cruiser in a straight line for about ten
klicks.
Step
6:
Highlight
T/I Beta and T/F Alpha and set their global unit to two.
Step
7:
Even
though you are one of the X-Wings, you have to give your wingmates orders
to do stuff. Give the X-W Red the order to “Attack targets global
unit 2” This will tell them to attack the fighters you just put in global
unit two. For the second order, tell X-W Red to “Attack targets flight
group STRKC Frop”. So, basically you have told your wingmates to “Attack
the fighters and then the Strike Cruiser”
Step
8:
Highlight
the STRKC Frop from the Ship List, and on the departure settings, and under
“abort mission when” select “at 75% hull” and for the departure string,
fill in "100% of flight group STRKC Frop must be at 70% hull”
Step
9:
Select
X-W Red from Ship List, then select global goals. Then, for the first goal
string, put “100% of global unit 2 must be destroyed” and for incomplete,
put the text “Imperial Fighters: Destroy” for success put the text “Imperial
Fighters Destroyed” and for fail put “Cannot Destroy Imperial Fighters”
For the
second global goal string, put “100% of flight group STRKC Frop must withdraw”
and for incomplete put “Frop: Withdraw”, for success put “Frop Withdraw”
and for fail put “Frop did not withdraw”. Set the points to 500.
Step
10:
For
the final order for X-W Red, put “Hyper to region” and select “0” for the
value. Then make a waypoint for that order that is near the hyperbuoy.
That will tell them to hyper to region 1 after they are finished blowing
stuff up.
Part
4: Messages
The
messages are basically like orders, but instead of telling a ship to do
something you tell when a message should appear. So, first, select Messages
from the Main Pages.
Step
1:
Create
a new message with the same button you select a new flight group with .
For the first message, type in “Go to the hyper point” and set the delay
for one second. For the second message, use the string “100% of flight
group STRKC Frop must withdraw” and for the message type in “Coward!!”
or something like that.
For the
third Message, use the strings “100% of flight group STRKC Frop must withdraw”
and “100% of global unit 2 must be destroyed”. For the message type in
“Let's go home”
Part
5: Text Selections.
Text
selections are The description of the mission, the win debriefing, and
the hints for the mission.
Click
on the text selections button at the top of your screen ,
and for the description put “Hyper into a region, destroy some stuff, then
go back home.” For the Win Debriefing put “Good Job” and for
the Hints put “Shoot the fighters first, then the Frop". Remember to keep
the “#” there, or it will not show up.
Part
6: Putting your mission into work.
Click
on the button in the upper-right
part of the screen. Then, fill in the blanks. It is different for every
person, depending how many custom missions you have installed before. For
the mission description put “Asteroid Belt”.. |
