Icons

The icons which are displayed in XWA briefings are completely independent of the FGs in the mission, in this way they are more like X-Wing briefings than XvT briefings. XWA keeps a list of icons, numbered from 0 up. To add a new Icon to the Briefing choose the Add Icon button from the toolbar.

Each icon is identified by its number in the list, with the numbers of each icon displayed next to them on the WYSIWYG page, and the currently selected icon highlighted by a yellow box:
Icons
You can select an icon by left-clicking on it (select to drag) or right-clicking on it (select without dragging.) Note that when you drag an icon to a new position, that position becomes the X and Y coordinates for the most recent Move instruction for that icon.

.
There are several operations/instructions that can be performed on the selected icon. From the WYSIWYG page, these are available in the Selected Icon section to the right of the map:

Rotate 0 degrees Inserts instruction to rotate selected Icon to 0 degrees.
Rotate 90 degrees Inserts instruction to rotate selected Icon to 90 degrees.
Rotate 180 degrees Inserts instruction to rotate selected Icon to 180 degrees.
Rotate 270 degrees Inserts instruction to rotate selected Icon to 270 degrees.
Mirror Icon Inserts instruction to mirror selected Icon horizontally about its center.
Clear Icon Makes the selected Icon invisible. It does this by inserting an instruction to set its Ship value to none.
Box Icon Inserts the instruction to enclose the selected Icon in a box.
Show Ship Info Inserts two instructions: one to turn the rotating display of the Icon's Ship type on, and another to turn it off. It places these 4.8 seconds apart, which is approximately the time it takes for the displayed ship to rotate once, but this time can be adjusted from the instruction list.

Animating Icons

Icons can also move around the screen during Briefings. The way the animation is achieved is like "stop frame" animation i.e. the icons move little by little to give the illusion of movement when played back at 25 frames per second. Each small movement requires a Move instruction to reposition it. To make this process easier, AlliED provides movement buttons:
.

Pressing a particular button will insert an instruction to reposition the selected icon in the direction of the arrow, and advance the Briefing by one "frame".
The distance the Icon moves in that direction, and therefore its "speed" at playback, is determined by the value in the Speed box. The Accelerate/Decelerate buttons will adjust the Speed with each click to automatically increase or decrease the Speed value.

.
If you want more than one Icon moving at the same time in a Briefing, put in all the movement for one Icon, then rewind the Briefing to the point you want another Icon to move, select it, and use the Move arrows to set that one's path. Icons that have already been animated will move around as you step through the Briefing...
